The US Army Recruiting Program for Foreign Health Care Professionals
Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI) is the US Army recruiting program introduced in February 2009 to employ non-citizens of US into health care services of the US army. Legal non citizens of US without lawful permanent resident status are also eligible to join the US army and can apply for citizenship directly, as per this recruiting program.
MAVNI recruitment program approved to be a wonderful opportunity for the temporary citizens to enter the US army and to obtain the US citizenship without a permanent residential proof. Only immigrants who have stayed for at least two years are entitled to join the US army under this program.
Only citizens and non-citizens of the US, the legally recognized resident foreigners, certain nationals of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Palau were the only categories legitimately approved to become a member of the United Nations Armed Forces before February 2009.
Later in February 2009, it was announced by the Secretary of the Army under the guidance of Defense Secretary of the US army that employment of the other nationals residing in the US as healthcare professionals was in favor of the national interest, hence they could also be considered for recruitment to the US army.
Medical professionals, such as doctors and nurses specialized in Internal Medicine, Dentistry, General Surgery, Veterinary Medicine, Psychiatry, and various other fields are recruited in the MAVNI recruitment program. But, fluency in any one of the foreign languages specified by the MAVNI recruitment program was the restriction for the recruitment.
Official service for eight years is mandatory for the recruited MAVNI members of the US Army just as any other normally recruited member. Under the circumstance of incomplete service his/her US citizenship would be invalidated. The US Army Recruitment Program was planned to proceed till December 31, 2009 or till the recruitment of the intended number of healthcare professionals.
